關於佛誕

佛誕，顧名思義，就是佛祖釋迦牟尼誕生的日子。佛祖於公元前623年五月月圓之日，誕生為淨飯國王子，距今已有二千六百四十多年。佛教傳入中國後，以中國曆法推算，無論漢傳或藏傳佛教，一般都訂其誕辰為舊曆四月初八，佛經亦如此記載。佛誕又稱「浴佛節」、「潑水節」，因傳說佛祖出生時，天上有九龍吐水為其沐浴。此外，相傳當時諸天王各持十二種香湯名花以浴太子，因此這天亦習慣以大量香花供佛，所以佛誕又叫「花節」。

 

佛祖為何選擇四月八日出生呢？《佛說灌佛經》有雲：「春夏之際，殃罪悉畢，萬物普生，毒氣未行，不寒不熱，時氣和適，正是佛生之日。」由此可見，此日氣候適中，舊惡已淨，新惡未生，故佛生在此日。至於其他在此日出生的人，都會比較與佛有緣，而且慈悲心亦較重。
